Happy Monday, gfs!!! Hope you guys had the best weekend and are having a great start to your week. I know this post is longgg overdue, but I’m so excited to finally share my new office with you guys!!!! This has been a labor of love and I’m so dang excited that it’s finally complete!!!
When we first moved in to our new place, I rushed to buy random things that I thought I wanted in my office, but nothing really matched, I ended up switching it up like 3 or 4 more times! (haha) That’s what I get for rushing 😉
Anywho, over the last couple months of using the space and getting to know the full-time blogging life, I started to realize things that I need and would use on a regular basis. (Hello, Printer?) haha.
If you’ve followed me a little while, you guys know I love pink and all things glam, so I wanted a space that showed my personality a bit, but it was also important to me to keep it clean and a bit modern. I have learned to love not having clutter, I know, easier said than done, but it really makes SUCH a big difference. So, I started a list and would just add things that I wanted in my office (ie. shelving unit, rack for my clothes/bags, cute mirror, organization storage, etc.). Then, I started exploring Amazon and Target for some cute modern glam finds. I have to say, I scored the jackpot on Amazon, because most of the stuff in my office I found was pretty inexpensive! I started to buy things over the course of a few months and then played around with arrangement and how I wanted the space to be. It definitely took a few times rearranging the room to figure out the perfect office space, but I think I nailed it!! 🙂
Once I had all the furniture set, I really wanted some pop of color or something to add some dimension and life to the space. I looove all white rooms and how bright they are, but I definitely realized I needed some contrast. So, I started researching for removable wallpaper. I kept seeing girls share and post about it and I was like YEP, I need some for an accent wall. When I was browsing different sites, most of the options were soooo busy and bright or geared towards kids, so I wasn’t having the best luck lol. That’s when I was so lucky to get in contact with Wall Snobs – they have hundreds of designs to choose from and I told her the style and theme I was looking for and OMG they actually helped me find the perfect match!! I’m so obsessed with how it looks and also SO excited because they gave me an amazing discount to share with you guys!! You can get 30% off your order with my code: MAKENNA.
My wallpaper adds a nice sophisticated, modern feel to the room, and it was just subtle enough to be in my “workspace”. Wall Snobs have been a dream to work with, and the wallpaper couldn’t have been any easier to install. I sent the measurements for the wall, and they sent me 6 panels each labeled and instructions for installing. The instructions were so clear and concise which is HUGE for me because there’s nothing worse than having to install or build something with confusing instructions. The entire thing took me and G like 2 1/2 hours!!
ALSO! I love that the material of the wallpaper is vinyl. It’s super easy to to work with and very forgiving if you mess up and place it a little to close or far away form the other panel, it’s so easy to remove and stick back on. I love this too because we live in an apartment, so I wanted to make sure I was working with a material that wouldn’t damage the wall and would be easy to remove! I could go on and on about how amazing my experience has been with Wall Snobs!!
Now that my space is complete, I have to keep it clean and organized 😉 I’m going to share a few tips that have helped me keep my space fresh, clean and organized!
- Buy a file folder, binder and/or some magazine files. These have saved my life when it comes to organizing contracts, invoices, etc. I like to label each file so I know where everything is.
- Clean up your workspace after you call it a day. This is HUGE for me. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my mood and productivity when I get in my office in the morning and have a clean space vs a messy one. It feels so nice to start each day with a fresh, clean space! (and giant coffee)..
- Purge every 2-3 months and if you haven’t used it in the last year, you probably won’t use it again, throw it away! or better yet, donate it to someone who will. I used to have the hardest time with this, but I promise you, you will feel so much better after getting rid of random things you haven’t used in forever!!
- Keep your surfaces de-cluttered. I try not to have busy tables/shelves, etc. because it looks messy to the eye. Try to keep things to a minimum when it comes to your desk, shelves, clothing rack, etc. I promise you’ll feel so much better in your space!! 🙂
- If it doesn’t have a “home”, get rid of it! Everything in your space should have a “home” or a specific spot. For example, my printer stays on tops of my cubby shelves, my desk essentials are always on my desk (nothing more), and everything on my shelves and hanging on my rack has a spot and a purpose. Get rid of those items that you just randomly throw somewhere. This will help with tip #4.
- Keep your essentials accessible. If you use something every day or quite often, keep it in an accessible spot. For the other things that you might not grab or use as often, put it in another room, higher shelf, etc.
- Vacuum weekly! This is huge for me. I tend to do a full cleaning/vacuum once a week, and it helps so much!!
There is actually a ton of science on how keeping things clean and organized helps with productivity, but I won’t get into that much detail haha. I just know what has helped me personally and what works for me! (everyone is different). And even if you don’t have access to an office or separate room for work. You can always organize a corner in your house, a part of your bedroom, or even a spot on your patio/porch into a work area. Its just somewhere you can go where you know you GET THINGS DONE!! 🙂
I hope these tips help keep your space clean and organized!! 🙂 As always, feel free to ask any questions in the comment section!
