Ahhhh!! I can’t believe it you guys!!! We are finally engaged and getting married (hopefully in 2023). EEE! I decided to write a blog post all about it because I’m always getting questions on how it happened, how we met, all the things. So let’s get into it!
HOW WE MET
It all started back in summer of 2014 in Seattle. I was home from college (University of Arizona) for summer break and had just turned 21. I was living my best life with my friends on the lake. Around this time, a popular app called Tinder came out so I thought it would be funny to download and make a profile. I talked to a few people on the app (def some characters on there lol). I came across Garrett’s profile and was like UMMM SWIPE RIGHT!!! LOL. And it instantly popped up saying “It’s a match” or whatever it said haha! I literally had butterflies and was like omg what do I do now? He messaged me saying “Your face, I like it.” That was the first thing he ever said to me. Its SO funny and now the best inside joke!
We did end up talking for a couple months before I would meet up with him. Had to make sure he was normal haha! We texted, FaceTimed, got to know each other while he worked a ton, we finally met up in Seattle and hung out a few times and realized we somehow had mutual friends!? He lived in Arizona with his Dad and I was in Seattle but we both went to different colleges in Arizona. He just happened to be in Seattle for the summer when we met. You guys, I swear it was fate. Anyways, after the summer we went our separate ways and thought it was just a summer fling. Fast forward to later that fall, we reconnected and he came down to Tucson to visit me at school. It is about a 2 hour drive from Phoenix. We officially started dating probably two weeks later! For the first two years of dating, he would drive back and forth almost every single weekend because I didn’t have a car yet (being in college/living on campus). Looking back, I can’t believe he did that for us.
We both went on to graduate from college and then moved to Seattle/Bellevue for the summer after I graduated in 2016. I ended up getting a job offer in Arizona so we moved back to Arizona late that summer. We got our first full leased apartment together and started grinding away at our jobs. Phew, that was alot.
THE ENGAGEMENT
Fast forward to 2022. It has been 8 years!!! How did that happen!?! We knew we wanted to wait to get engaged and married until we were in a better position in our jobs/finances, etc. Garrett and I started working full time together in 2020 during the pandemic and it was the best decision we ever made. So, this year in 2022, we really started talking about getting engaged, wedding planning and starting a family. I knew this day was coming but I just didn’t know when.
We went to look at rings a few different times and of course I was so indecisive. It was so nice going together though and trying different styles on because getting engaged and married is a HUGE deal. It’s important that you both are included in that process and are on the same page with styles, budget, etc. I ultimately chose 2-3 different styles that I liked but told Garrett to make the final decision. 🙂
Fast forward to October of 2022. Our 8 year anniversary was on October 10 and he said he wanted to do something extra special. Since it hadn’t happened yet, I had a feeling it was going to happen that weekend. Ah, it was so magical!!! He planned the most amazing night. We went to our favorite resort in Scottsdale, Omni Montelucia, and he had a whole thing set up. He secretly had our friends filming the entire thing. Like video camera, photos, drone, everything. He walked me down to our favorite photo spot to take “pics” before our dinner reservation. Which is somewhat normal given my job… But instead of a pic for my page.. at that moment he took out the ring and got on one knee. Honestly, I blacked out so I don’t even know what we said to one another hahaha. It was PERFECT!! Ahhh I was shocked in the best way possible. It was so special. Our friends came out from around the corner to surprise us and we popped a bottle of champagne and took some photos 🙂
Once we took some pics and celebrated a little bit, we ended up getting dinner just the two of us and then celebrated more after with all of our closest friends. It was the best day/night ever. We are so happy for this next chapter and can’t wait to bring you all along on our wedding planning adventures!!
